Interior house painting involves preparing and painting interior walls, ceilings, trim, doors, baseboards, and accent walls to refresh a home’s appearance. Brennan Heikes Professional Painting serves Minneapolis and surrounding Twin Cities communities. Depending on the project, the work may include surface cleaning, patching, sanding, caulking, priming, and applying the selected finish coats.
Professional interior painting can refresh your living space while addressing the preparation and finishing work that affects the final appearance. The right approach depends on your home’s surfaces, room use, and desired finish.
A More Cohesive Interior: Fresh paint can bring together wall colors, doors, trim, and ceilings. Color and finish choices can also help different rooms feel more consistent with your home’s overall style.
Better-Prepared Surfaces: Cleaning, sanding, caulking, and patching help create a suitable surface for paint. The preparation required depends on the existing finish and the condition of the walls or trim.
Finishes Suited to Everyday Use: Paint selection should account for how each room is used. High-traffic hallways, kitchens, and family rooms may need different finish and cleaning considerations than less frequently used spaces.
A More Presentable Home: Fresh interior paint can help a home look cleaner and better maintained. This can be particularly helpful when preparing for a move, hosting visitors, or getting a property ready for sale.
Less Work for the Homeowner: Professional painting can reduce the time you need to spend sourcing supplies, preparing surfaces, applying paint, and cleaning up. The project scope should clarify how furniture, flooring, and other belongings will be protected.
Guidance on Colors and Finishes: Brennan Heikes currently describes color consultation services for homeowners. Use this service to discuss color preferences, room lighting, existing finishes, and the look you want to achieve.
Interior painting can help refresh worn finishes, update dated colors, and create a more consistent appearance. However, underlying surface problems should be addressed before new paint is applied.
Outdated Paint Colors: Colors that once suited a room may no longer fit your preferences or furnishings. Updating the paint can create a different atmosphere without requiring a full room renovation.
Uneven Coverage or Poor Previous Work: Visible brush marks, missed edges, patchy coverage, and peeling paint can leave walls looking unfinished. The existing paint and surface condition should be assessed before choosing the appropriate preparation and repainting method.
Preparing a Home for Sale: Fresh interior paint can help rooms look clean and well maintained during photographs and viewings. Neutral or coordinated colors may also make it easier for prospective buyers to imagine the space as their own.
Scuffs and Wear in High-Traffic Areas: Hallways, stairways, kitchens, and family rooms often develop marks from daily use. Repainting these areas can improve their appearance, while appropriate paint selection can make routine cleaning easier.
Worn Ceilings, Trim, and Doors: Walls are not the only surfaces that may need attention. Painting ceilings, baseboards, doors, and trim can help create a more consistent finish throughout the room.
Brennan Heikes Professional Painting provides interior painting for homeowners who want to refresh individual rooms or update several areas of their home. The appropriate scope depends on the surfaces involved, their condition, and the finish you want.
Interior Walls and Accent Walls: Wall painting can refresh a room, coordinate different spaces, or introduce an accent color. Surface preparation and finish selection depend on the existing wall condition and the appearance you want to achieve.
Ceilings, Trim, Doors, and Baseboards: Painting these details can complete an interior update. Trim, doors, and baseboards may require different preparation and application techniques from larger wall surfaces.
Surface Preparation and Minor Repairs: Existing paint, drywall condition, dents, nail holes, and gaps can affect the final finish. The estimate should clarify which preparation and repair tasks are included before painting begins.
Color and Finish Selection: Color consultation can help you consider room lighting, furnishings, architectural details, and your preferred style. The final paint and finish should suit the surface and intended room use.
The duration of an interior painting project depends on the property size, number of rooms, surface condition, repair requirements, number of coats, and drying time. A small project may take a few days, while a larger home can require several weeks.
Discuss the rooms, surfaces, finish preferences, preparation needs, and project scope. Establish the proposed work and timeline before the project begins.
Prepare the work areas by protecting furnishings and flooring. Depending on the agreed scope, preparation may involve cleaning, scraping loose paint, patching, sanding, caulking, and priming.
Apply the selected products according to the surface requirements. The number of coats and necessary drying time will depend on the products, conditions, and existing finish.
After the painting work is complete, clean the work area and review the finished surfaces. Address any agreed-upon finishing items during the final walkthrough.
The exact scope should be confirmed in your estimate. Depending on the project, interior painting may include:
Project assessment: Discuss the rooms, surfaces, desired colors, and work requirements.
Furniture and floor protection: Protect the agreed work areas and nearby belongings before painting.
Surface preparation: Clean, sand, patch, or caulk surfaces as required by their condition and the agreed scope.
Priming where needed: Prepare suitable surfaces before applying finish coats.
Interior paint application: Paint the specified walls, ceilings, trim, doors, baseboards, or accent walls.
Color and finish guidance: Discuss available options for your space and intended use.
Cleanup: Remove project materials and clean the work area as agreed.
Final review: Walk through the completed work and identify any outstanding agreed-upon items.

Busy Homeowners and Professionals: Professional painting can help reduce the time you spend on preparation, paint application, and cleanup.

I could not have been more pleased with the painting job of Brennan and his daughter. They did a great job prepping the walls and the paint job is pristine. They also completed the job in record time, were easy to schedule and left everything in perfect shape - and I thought the price was reasonable, too. I will definitely use them again and highly recommend Brennan!Posted on Google![]()

This was for a hallway and staircase area, which can be tricky due to angles and height. They came prepared with proper equipment instead of improvising, which gave me some confidence. At one point, I noticed a slight difference in shade between two connected walls, and they adjusted it to match. The work took a bit longer than expected, probably because of the complexity, but the finish is clean even in hard-to-reach spots. The lines along the edges look sharp, not wobbly like I’ve seen in other places.Posted on Google![]()

I had an excellent experience with this painter. They were professional, punctual, and very detail-oriented. The paint finish is smooth and even, and the colors look exactly as I expected. They also kept the workspace clean and organized throughout the project. My home looks refreshed and much more appealing now. I’m very happy with the results and would definitely recommend this painter to anyone looking for quality work. 🎨Posted on Google![]()

Update: Brennan came by the same week I posted this review and fixed all the issues I had. Thanks Brennan! Old review: Quote for painting my 10 sqft bathroom with 10 ft tall ceilings was $400 which is reasonable. He completed in under 2 hours and at first glance it looked decent. After further review these are the things I noticed that were issues: 1. Didn't remove any of the hardware from the walls and painted around it causing paint to be left on them. 2. Didn't clean up any mud he used and left mud in my shower and on my sink. 3. When I asked him about the wall hardware not being removed he applied plaster and left me with sandpaper and the paint to do myself. Experience started out well and went downhill fast after he was "completed." I would make sure to tell him what your expectations are before he starts.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. Touch-up painting may work when damage is limited and the existing paint is still in good condition. Repainting an entire room may provide a more consistent appearance when the paint has faded, several areas show wear, or the existing color is changing.
| Option | When It May Make Sense | What to Consider |
|---|---|---|
| Touch-up painting | Small marks or limited damage | The original paint, sheen, and color may no longer match exactly. |
| Full-room repainting | Widespread wear, multiple repairs, or a color change | More preparation and paint may be required, but the finish can be more consistent. |
DIY painting can be suitable for a small room with sound surfaces when you have the time and tools to prepare and paint it. Professional painting may be preferable for larger projects, complex trim, high ceilings, extensive preparation, or homeowners who prefer not to manage the work themselves.
Before deciding, consider the time required, access to tools, surface repairs, protection of furnishings, and the finish you want. If you’re uncertain about the surface condition or project scope, discuss it during an estimate.
The timeline depends on the home's size, the number of rooms, the surface condition, preparation requirements, and drying time. A smaller project may take a few days, while a larger home can take several weeks. Request an estimate for a timeline based on your property's scope.
